OLYMPIA, Wash. - From Commission Chair Bud Sizemore on behalf of the Washington State Gambling Commission:
It is with both sadness and gratitude that I announce the departure of Director David Trujillo, who is leaving the agency to pursue an exciting new opportunity as the next director of the Washington State Board of Accountancy.
Director Trujillo joined the agency in July 1992 and has enjoyed a long and distinguished career, while also serving as a member of the Washington Army State Guard. His work as a special agent and as the Director has earned him awards from the Secretary of State, the Washington Society of Certified Public Accountants, the Washington Military Department and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
Under his leadership, the agency was accredited by the Washington Association of Sheriffs and Police Chiefs in 2014 and in 2018, and streamlined and restructured the agency's 40 year old complex license fee system. He also re-established and formalized the agency's tribal-state government-to-government consultation process. Lastly, Director Trujillo led the agency's increased criminal enforcement efforts against the black market, including efforts focused on online gambling and online video game gambling issues, among many other accomplishments.
I sincerely thank Director Trujillo for his strong leadership and innumerable contributions to this agency. He freely shared his knowledge and experience with me and others and has made a powerful impact on me personally. I wish him the best of luck as the new director of the Board of Accountancy and appreciate his dedication to making this agency one of the best state gambling regulators in the country.
Director Trujillo fostered strong relationships with Washington tribal leaders, tribal gaming agency partners, law enforcement partners, and licensees, that will benefit the agency going forward. Director Trujillo leaves the Gambling Commission well-situated to continue its mission into the future.
Director Trujillo's last day will be Wed., March 31st. An interim director will be named on or before his departure. I and my fellow commissioners will help oversee the process of finding a permanent replacement and I am confident we will find a great candidate to be our next Director. This agency has great staff and a great culture, and I am confident that leadership and staff will make this a smooth transition for our agency, licensees and tribal governmental partners.
